“The foundation of a fulfilling career is doing something that you love, if you do something you love it doesn’t feel like work,” says Alyce Tran as she swishes her Christopher Esber skirt back and forth in front of the camera during the ‘Underneath It All’ campaign shoot. For Tran, her line of work wasn’t always monogrammed phone cases, bags, wallets, suitcases and even dog collars (just to name a few). She started out as a lawyer, but after realising a large-scale corporate environment wasn’t her calling and seeing a gap in the market for accessible monogrammed lifestyle accessories, she took the plunge in 2014 with her co-founder Tania Liu, saved up a year’s salary and quit her job to take on The Daily Edited full time. Five years on, the brand has an international presence across Australia and the US, with flagship stores in Sydney, Melbourne and New York—and there’s no slowing down for Tran, who art directs campaign imagery, oversees TDE’s social accounts and designs and creates every single product—all while undertaking her responsibilities as the brand’s CEO.
To say Tran has a busy life is an understatement—meetings, shoots and travel take up a lot of her time, so it’s important that her foundation can keep up and last the distance. “I work hard, I travel quite a bit, so to stay flawless throughout the day I prime my face before putting on makeup to ensure I’ve got a base that’ll last the whole day,” she says. And when it comes to foundation, Tran rates bareMinerals barePRO Performance Wear Liquid Foundation because of its full coverage finish and the way it holds up on her combination skin; “how I look when I leave in the morning is how I look six hours later with this one.” Putting her best face forward is something Tran focuses on, especially before an important meeting; “I actually go and get my makeup done at MECCA,” she explains—“it makes me look very pulled together. I’m quite bad at eye makeup so that is my go-to thing to prep myself before an important meeting.”
When asked what her foundation in life is, Tran says with a smile; “the thing that makes me happy is my sister Caroline, I just love her, she’s very chic and cool and provides me with very good advice from style to life. She is really what motivates me.”
