Eyes to mesmerise: 12 MECCA team members’ go-to looks to wear with a mask

As wearing a protective mask becomes the new—and in Victoria, enforced—normal, it’s only natural that our beauty focuses are moving away from bright or glossy lips, and towards smouldering eye looks. Change can be hard—we get it—so to inspire you to slip on a mask (and tackle those abandoned colours in your favourite palettes) our store and HQ teams have banded together to create a collection of eye looks to sport next time you leave the house.

The addition of a mask gives any eye look a sense of mystery that we just can’t seem to get enough of… That and the confidence in knowing you’re far more protected from airborne germs. Keep scrolling for 12 mask-ready looks, created by our incredibly talented store and HQ staff, plus some tips from MECCA Colour and Artistry Education Manager, Jen Horsley.

“I spotted my bottle of Floral Street’s Electric Rhubarb on my dresser and I knew I wanted to do something bright and fun! I especially love using oranges and pinks because of how they pop against my skin tone. I’m such a fan of a winged-out shadow and this look makes me feel fierce!”

Karita is blessed with incredible brows (enhanced by Hourglass and MECCA MAX favourites), and our in-house makeup wizard, Horsley, thinks now is the time to make the most of yours: “while some of us don’t have access to our brow gurus, experiment with a fluffy textured brow! Embrace brow gels to add texture and define each hair—brows really frame the face and are a great way to look groomed whist having half the face covered.”

“For this look, I wanted to walk the line between colourful and sultry. There’s something so alluring about only seeing someone’s eyes; an element of mystery. The Naked Ultraviolet Palette by Urban Decay was perfect for this, with a mix of deep smoky shades and enchanting purple shimmers.”

“Lilac is great on all eye colours,” recommends Horsley, “and we have some amazing Single Shadows from MECCA MAX, as well as the Naked Ultraviolet Palette by Urban Decay.” “You can use a deeper shade closer to the lash line like a liner or do a beautiful soft wash of colour diffused into the crease to add interest to the eye without having a lip to anchor the look.”

Meggie’s double-wing is the beauty inspiration we all need right now: with a flick at the lash line and the crease, it’s equally graphic as it is subtle, accentuating the lines of her neoprene mask.

With greater emphasis on the eyes, Horsley says now is a great time to play with eyeliner. “It gives the eye definition and you can take this time to experiment with a baby wing, a feline flick, a smudged out smoky look or a bold graphic liner.”
