Nude lipstick has long been a tricky proposition. It flatters everyone but locating the perfect shade requires effort. Too cool and you can look ghostly. Too opaque and it’s as if you applied concealer to your pout. Too dark can read depressingly brown. MAC is here to save the day. The brand, already known for its wide-ranging Studio Fix Foundation, recently launched its Strip Down lipstick collection. It’s a comprehensive line-up of nude lip shades from sheer vanilla to deep chocolate.
Diversity and inclusion have long been at the heart of MAC’s culture says senior global makeup artist Nicole ‘Pinky’ Thompson. “We have always been a brand that has it all, for all customers, no matter what you look like. Everyone is allowed to be beautiful at MAC.” MECCA has cherry-picked 17 shades from the collection, joining our existing lineup. The shades vary in texture and finishes with mattes, lustres and satins all on offer. Create a new-school nude look with the brand’s nine neutral lip pencils and the iconic Prep + Prime Lip Primer.
For a beautifully buff pout, start with Prep + Prime Lip, a transparent base that hydrates, smooths creases and prevents feathering. Then, line the lips with one of the nine mega-pigmented, long-lasting neutral pencils. Now, all that’s left to do is to pick your nude.
Pinky suggests “figuring out what ‘nude’ means to you—there is no right or wrong answer.” The entire collection was made to give you freedom of choice, but we have our favourites. Velvet Teddy (a deep beige matte) and Bare Bling (beige-nude with gold flecks) are failsafe shades for fair skin, Smoked Almond ( a bright rose-brown) and Modesty (a muted neutral pink) are best bets for medium complexions, and Double Fudge (dark warm brown) and Whirl lipliner (a dirty rose) look fabulous on deeper tones. “Not only do they sound yummy, they look yummy,” adds Pinky. “Pick your nude!”
