MECCA dads on their fantasy Father’s Day

WITH FATHER’S DAY COMING UP (SEPTEMBER 2ND, IN CASE YOU FORGOT), WE SURVEYED SOME OF OUR VERY OWN MECCA DADS TO FIND OUT WHAT’S ON THEIR WISH LISTS THIS YEAR.

Peter Wetenhall, Co-CEO and dad to Eleanor, 14, and Charlie, 11

What’s on your Father’s Day wish list?
“A bottle of Byredo Mister Marvellous or maybe the Frederic Malle Vetiver Extraordinaire, a relaxing treatment in a great spa, and a bottle of Cullen Kevin John Chardonnay.”
Best Father’s Day gift yet?
“Breakfast in bed brought by the children together with two beautiful artworks they painted.”
Ideal Father’s Day plans?
“A walk and a picnic with the family and our golden retriever at Bushranger’s Bay on the Mornington Peninsula.”

Grant Madden, Finance Manager and dad to Frankie, 4, and Rosie, 2

What’s on your Father’s Day wish list?
“This will only be my fifth Father’s Day, so it still feels a little undeserving to be honest. But I would never say no to a shaving product, like the Perricone MD Soothing Post-Shave Treatment. It reminds me of how I’d spoil my Dad with a Brut 33 gift pack back in the day.”
Best Father’s Day gift yet?
“I love the gifts I receive from my children. Last year they made me a dream catcher at their child care, which has taken pride of place at home ever since.”
Ideal Father’s Day plans?
“Brekkie at a local cafe with my family, followed by a play at the park, and then onto a fun activity at one of Melbourne’s many kid-friendly attractions…and perhaps nine holes of golf in the afternoon if I can sneak it in.”

Stuart Freer, IT Consultant and dad to Samuel, 9, and Mae, 7

What’s on your Father’s Day wish list?
“I’m getting on a bit, I’m 42, so I need all of the help I can get. I run, I cycle and I hit the gym, so my skin gets dry and I look tired. Frankly, anything that can lift and firm should be on my list. So, if I can please have 14 litres of moisturiser (Dr. Dennis Gross Hyaluronic Marine Oil-Free Moisture Cushion, five litres of eye firmer (Goldfaden MD Bright Eyes), and 10 litres of anti-wrinkle cream (Radical Skincare Anti-Aging Restorative Moisture), that would be great.”
Best Father’s Day gift yet?
“My best present ever was a memories album that my kids made for me. They update it every year with a moment that they love.”
Ideal Father’s Day plans?
“My kids still wake up pretty early, so I would love to sleep in till 8am. Then I’d have breakfast in bed and hit the beach with my kids, followed by a gym session and a massage before a great family meal. And if that could all happen in Bora Bora, that would be great, because it’s way too cold in Melbourne.”

Igor Bilous, Head of IT and dad to Alisa, 8

What’s on your Father’s Day wish list? “I wear Comme des Garcon fragrances, usually Amazingreen, but I’d like to add Wonderwood to my collection.”
Best Father’s Day gift yet?
“The first year Alisa could write the card herself was great. It had a lot of mistakes, but the context was there—‘I like how you smell and how you look’. It was cute.”
Ideal Father’s Day plans?
“A getaway would be so nice, but she’s already at an age when she prefers spending time with her friends, or unpacking LOL Dolls for YouTube than playing with me. It would be nice to go skating or maybe trampolining together.”

David Liang, Web Developer and dad to Catherine, 6, and Lucas, 5

What’s on your Father’s Day wish list? “A Dainese motorcycle jacket—my wife can buy it and say it’s from the kids—a new bottle of Le Labo Santal 33, I’m running out, and the LEGO James Bond Aston Martin DB5. I love playing with LEGO with my kids, but that one will be just for me.”
Best Father’s Day gift yet?
“Last year I was given a mug by both my children. On one side my daughter painted a rainbow, and on the other side my son painted a rocket ship. It’s one of the first things they’d made together, so it was pretty special.”
Ideal Father’s Day plans?
LEGOLAND followed by yum cha.”

David Cumberland, Head of Finance and dad to Nathan, 22, and Tia, 18

What’s on your Father’s Day wish list?
“My wish list always includes a fragrance from Comme des Garcon, either Comme des Garcons 2 or Blue Santal, but I am happy to be surprised. I have sensitive skin so the Le Labo Aftershave Balm is a must, and another tube of Mecca Cosmetica To Save Face SPF30+. You can never have enough, especially as mine always seems to disappear.”
Best Father’s Day gift yet?
“When it comes to gifts, I am partial to a nice red wine or anything Star Wars-related.”
Ideal Father’s Day plans?
“With my children being older, the first thing on my wish list is just to spend time all together as a family over a nice lunch in a nice location. Ideally somewhere with sea views, or at one of the many Mornington Peninsula wineries.”

Simon Kuldin, Senior .NET Developer and dad to Hiro, 4

What’s on your Father’s Day wish list?
“My son is really into puzzles at the moment, so I’d like a really big one we could work on together. I’d also really like to try the Escentric Molecules fragrance, I’m intrigued by the single molecule note, and how it smells unique on everyone. My other pick is Maison Margiela By the Fireplace.”
Best Father’s Day gift yet?
“My first Father’s Day gift was a phone holder that was probably all my son’s teacher, but it was still really cool to receive.”
Ideal Father’s Day plans?
“A weekend at the Gold Coast with my family would be really welcome. I’d love to take Hiro to Movie World to see all the superheros walking around. He’s a pretty cautious kid so he wouldn’t be that into the rides yet, but he likes to see the action.”

Matthew Angel, Senior Graphic Designer and dad to Finn, 8 months

What’s on your Father’s Day wish list?
Byredo Super Cedar and the Malin + Goetz Vitamin E Face Moisturiser. There’s also a pair of boots from Pickings and Parry I’m eyeing, but I don’t think Finn’s pocket money will stretch that far.”
Best Father’s Day gift yet?
“This is my first one! I’d be very happy with a sleep-in at the moment.”
Ideal Father’s Day plans?
“Probably cruising around the MoMA exhibition at NGV if it’s raining, or the Melbourne Zoo if it’s nice.”
