Choosing an eye cream
(after the fact of whether you’ve decided if you actually need one) can feel like a big decision;
and then there’s the fine science of finding a concealer that
enhances the reason you chose your eye cream in the first place, rather than doing the opposite; a creasing
concealer atop an anti-wrinkle eye cream? No thanks.
We’ve talked you through our favourite eye creams in abundance (exhibit A, B and C), so now it’s time to
pair that knowledge up with a concealer you can rely on—after all, an eye cream can only help so much,
visually speaking, whereas concealer can cover up darkness or discoloration in seconds. The right
combination will become your no-makeup makeup must, your secret to faking more sleep and less Netflix, and
your easiest way to look fresh and alert every single day.
Eye cream: For dull or ashy-toned under-eyes, reach for Omorovicza’s Illumineye C to
brighten the appearance of the skin—it’s packed with vitamins C and A which work together to improve clarity
and tone. If your under-eyes veer more blue/purple, go for something formulated with arnica and niacinamide, as
this will help to clear and even while promoting healthy blood flow. Goldfaden MD Bright Eyes and Mecca Cosmetica Hydrating Eye Cream
are both great choices.
Radiant Creamy Concealer, in a shade slightly peachier than your natural shade to counteract blue and
grey tones. Focus your application of this concealer on the bluest parts under the eyes, the tear trough,
and outer corner for (what will look like) eight hours’ sleep in one swipe.
Eye cream: Powered by retinol, which helps to encourage the regeneration of plumping
collagen in the long term, Verso’s
Super Eye Serum makes the perfect match for lined eyes—just make sure to massage it (gently!) into any
lines for the full plumping effect.
Revealer Concealer is just as much skincare as it is makeup, formulated with collagen-boosting
peptides which help to reduce the appearance of lines over time—simply focus the product on your inner
corners and apply less over lined areas to avoid line-accentuating creasing. For more mature eyes, apply the
same technique with Chantecaille Le
Camouflage Stylo or La Mer The
Concealer—both very plumping and ‘juicy’ in texture, they sit flawlessly on more heavily lined eyes.
Eye cream: After a hydrating eye cream (which will help to control excess oil
production—Mecca Cosmetica Hydrating
Eye Cream will do the trick), an eyeshadow primer will actually help to keep your concealer more
mattified, while stopping it from moving around or sliding down your face. NARS’ Pro-Prime Smudge Proof Eyeshadow
Base or Smashbox’s Photo Finish
Hydrating Under Eye Primer will keep your concealer in check.
Concealer: With micro-spherical powders that help to absorb oil and keep your makeup
smooth and crease-free, Hourglass
Vanish Seamless Finish Liquid Concealer is made for oily eyes. Longwearing and unbelievably
concentrated, simply buff it underneath the eye and across the lids with the Hourglass Concealer Brush for an
undetectable finish that lasts all day.
Eye cream: A proud MECCA Beauty Election 2020 winner, Origins’ GinZing Refreshing Eye
Cream is the ultimate fix for puffy eyes, thanks to a mega dose of caffeine and ginseng. Using your
ring finger, sweep the cream outward to stimulate lymphatic drainage, physically relieving puffiness. Make
sure to keep it in the fridge for an ultra-cooling sensation.
Concealer: Stila’s wildly underrated Pixel Perfect Concealer is formulated with elderflower extract, an ingredient famous
for reducing the appearance of puffy eyes and dark circles (and tasting great in a G&T). Like we suggested
for your eye cream, apply this concealer to your inner corners, then sweep and pat outwards to maximise the
benefit of lymphatic drainage. Repeat this over your lids for the ultimate depuffing effect.
Eye cream: Like a multivitamin for your face, Bobbi Brown’s Vitamin Enriched Eye
Base nourishes, hydrates and plumps the eye area while also priming for flawless and longwearing
concealer application. Concealer creasing can often be caused by dehydration lines, so this winning cream
will stop them in their tracks.
Concealer: Applied with warm fingers and gently pressed into the under-eye area, RMS Un Cover-Up will seamlessly
conceal darkness and discolouration around the eye area, while locking in hydration thanks to fatty
acid-rich coconut oil. Think your skin, but better (and far more radiant).
