Our edit of beauty buys that spark joy in more ways than one

There are some items in our bathroom cabinet that end up being the star of our shelfie for their eye-catching or unique packaging. Or there’s one compact we pull out at any opportunity for a touch up because it just looks so good. When it comes to products close to our heart—sometimes it’s as much about how it looks in its packaging as how it applies, its scent or how it makes us look (and feel). We rounded up the products that are sparking a little bit of joy in our lives right now.

Tatcha The Water Cream

This Japanese water-based, oil-free moisturiser is lightweight—but don’t be fooled, it packs some serious punch when it comes to hydration. Fast-absorbing and non-greasy (this one’s for you, oily-skinned types), this gel-like cream helps reduce the appearance of pores while providing a dewy base for makeup. Like all Tatcha moisturisers, this one comes with a cute little golden applicator that sits on top of the lid. It makes for easy application and gives the packaging a 10/10 cuteness rating in our books.

Westman Atelier Beauty Butter Bronzer

The packaging of celeb makeup artist Gucci Westman’s makeup line, Westman Atelier, is polished, modern and looks very schmick in every flat lay or bag spill you pop it in. We love the Beauty Butter Bronzer for three reasons: a) the cute love hearts that are pressed into the powder, b) the way its silky formula builds and then melts into skin for a glow that looks beachy and c) the satisfying ‘click’ the compact makes when you snap it closed.

Lilah B Divine Duo Lip & Cheek

We love the simplicity of Lilah B’s packaging. The brand’s founder, Cheryl Yannotti Foland, was inspired by the fluid, organic shapes and the soothing and peaceful experience of Elsa Peretti’s designs for Tiffany & Co in the ‘90s. Now Lilah B’s packaging is unmistakable with its pebble-like components and clean white colour way. The creamy formulas (infused with coconut oil and aloe vera) add a flattering wash of pigment-rich colour to the lips and cheeks while the smooth compact glides open and is sturdy enough to not get knocked around in your makeup bag.

Replica Beach Walk EDT

You’ve probably eyed off the dreamy packaging of all of Replica’s fragrances before. Each bottle is not only beautifully designed but houses a fragrance connected to a memory—recalling aromas deep within our subconscious to conjure up a sense of nostalgia in just a handful of notes. Beach Walk EDT seems like a nice pick for the current times we’re living in, as a physical beach walk might not actually be possible right now. This comforting scent is inspired by walking alongside the ocean with the feeling of the sand in between your toes and the waves brushing up your ankles. With notes of bergamot, pink pepper, lemon, ylang ylang, coconut milk and cedarwood it’ll transform you to your favourite beach spot in just a few spritzes.

Fornasetti Nuvola Candle

There are many reasons this lavish candle could (literally) spark joy. The scent is an intoxicating mix of cypress, labdanum, cedarwood, sandalwood and musk—while the design itself depicts Lina Cavalieri (a famous Italian opera singer) surrounded by clouds. It’s the type of candle that might seem like an investment, but with over 60 hours of burn time and a vessel that can be repurposed as a vase, pot plant holder or whatever you wish—it makes it a piece you’ll treasure for years to come.

MECCA MAX Zoom Shadow Sticks

The quickest and easiest way to brighten your day? Swipe on an eyeshadow you’ve never tried before. It’s the perfect time to try while you’re locked down at home. You can experiment with every colour under the rainbow and no one will know you’ve been flicking on a bright green wing while watching the latest season of The Bold Type on the couch. If you’re in a colour rut and want to push some boundaries, we recommend MECCA MAX Zoom Shadow Sticks, they glide on with ease and provide effortless colour payoff in complement-every-complexion shades.

Drunk Elephant Wild Marula Tangle Spray

The bright pops of neon and aesthetically pleasing packaging of Drunk Elephant is something else. Their eye-catching colours and design make them easy to spot in a shelfie lineup. The brand’s latest collection is all about treating the skin on your body and head with the same amount of love that you show your face. We recommend any of these as an instant way to brighten up your shower shelf; while the innovative formulas will help hydrate, exfoliate and strengthen your scalp and hair and keep your skin nourished from head to toe.

Too Faced Sweet Peach Eye Shadow Palette

Sometimes we all need a lil’ sweet treat in our lives. Enter the (oldie but definitely still a goodie) Too Faced Sweet Peach Eye Shadow Palette. When it launched it was pure peach pandemonium: the colours, the buttery formula, that sweet smell—everything about brings a slice of joy that we can really get around right now. Never tried it? It’s not too late to see what all the fuzz is about.
