We know how they can help us with love, money, career and friendship but what skincare and makeup knowledge can they bestow upon us? Well, we've asked the tricky questions for you and here is what your favourite astrologers have to say about beauty and wellness.
“As I learned astrology, I gained a greater sense of love and understanding for myself. I now try to do yoga or meditation every day to combat anxiety,” says New Yorker and astrologer Alice Bell, who left her job a Vogue US to follow her zodiac dreams.
“As an Aquarius, I like my life to be full of change. I’m never going to be someone who has a solid routine that stays the same from day to day,” Alice says of her beauty routine, adding, she paints as a form of meditation to keep her mind clear. Face or canvas, this is a good tip for all signs, especially anxiety-ridden Aquarians.
Likewise, Cancer and intuitive astrologer Amy McDermott, known as @sistersvillage on Instagram, feels the impact of her sign on her beauty and wellness routines daily.
“We are nurturing, protective and gentle, and I feel this is the exact approach I have to beauty and wellness. I definitely like to nurture myself, my body, my skin,” she says of the influence her sign has on her self-care routines. For McDermott, her go-to products include Hourglass’s Ambient Lighting Bronzer (“I also use it as an eye shadow too!”) and Mecca Cosmetica’s Enlightened Lit From Within Illuminating Balm (“Highlighter just makes me look so fresh”).
Meme-loving astrologer Jake of @jakesastrology is a Libra Sun with a Virgo Rising, a potent combination, the astral phenomenon tells MECCA.
“I’m non-binary but mainly masculine-presenting and I feel like a lot of people who grow up ‘male’ in our society aren’t taught to take care of their skin or have any sort of beauty routine and it shows,” Jake says, noting a daily sheet mask is a part of their daily beauty routine.
“When it comes to physical appearance, you always want to look at your Rising sign in your birth chart, which is determined by knowing the time you were born,” Jake explains, confirming his Virgo qualities (“Virgos are the control freaks of the zodiac”) has imbued their routine with pedant tendencies.
“They are total perfectionists, and they’re earth signs, which means they’re practical and only concern themselves with what’s material and tangible. I was born October 15, so I am a Libra, which is actually the sign of beauty and aesthetics, so my looks are super important to me. I don’t think I’m a particularly superficial person (hahaha) but as a Libra Sun/Virgo rising, I’ve always been super self-conscious about how I look,” Jake continues.
As for Lisa Stardust, a Gemini always open to new ideas and techniques, natural products are her go-to and the Moon’s cycle is the starting point for her routine.
“I believe that we all are in rhythm with the earth, therefore, natural products will help do the trick to elevate our wellness and beauty routines,” says Lisa, revealing, “I use the Moon phases to start a regiment and end it. I also use lunar infused water, if I can, to help restore vitality to my tonics,” the astrologer adds.
As for the products she reaches for the most? Lisa says she is all about products that help her to relax and restore: “rose water to refresh my skin, Himalayan salt for baths to detox my aura, and rose oil as perfume to activate my heart chakra.”
Even if you take astrology with a grain of salt, the professionals dominating the category are blazing a trail and their wise words on beauty-related topics are worth noting down. So next time you need some rest and relaxation, or want to add a splash of colour to your beauty routine consider how your Sun, Rising and Moon signs might be effecting your moves. And if in doubt, treat yourself to a Himalayan salt for bath to detox your aura, stat.
