Welcome to the MECCA A-Z of Beauty: when it comes to beauty, we have it all—and this
month, we’re inviting you to brush up on your beauty alphabet.
R is for rulebreaker: step outside the box, push it to the limit, change it up and mix it up!
Here’s four ways to break these four common beauty rules.
YOU CAN ONLY CONTOUR WITH BRONZER
Forget what you know about contouring. The popular taupe-meets-brown hue so often used to chisel
out cheek bones and define the features of your face can be swapped out for a pop of colour
instead. Channel your inner 80s kid and grab your blush of choice: perhaps you could try the new
NARS Orgasm Blush
Oversized—it’s the universally flattering peachy gold hue that’s a perennial bestseller.
Or reach for the new Hourglass Vanish Blush —a cream-to-powder blush stick which blends
seamlessly into the skin; its triangular tip allows for an even application of product as it
follows the contours of the cheek. As for the placement of your blush, try buffing it above the
brow into the temples, below the cheekbones and down the centre of the nose—basically anywhere
you’d think to apply your regular contour. The blush should be the main focus, so keep the rest
of the look pared back and simple.

DON’T CLASH COLOURS
Say it with us: ‘don’t be afraid of colour!’. A year of lockdown and dipping into your makeup bag less frequently might’ve left you feeling like you can’t handle bright hues again (the same way wearing jeans instead of track pants still feels a little odd), but we say go all in and wear multiple, clashing colours in the one look. Try a two-toned pastel winged eye using the MECCA MAX Zoom Liners or wear two different coloured mascaras—we’re talking green on the top lashes and electric blue on the bottom: the perfect product to achieve this look is Shiseido’s ControlledChaos MascaraInk.
A BRONZY WARMTH IS ONLY FOR SUMMER
Just because we go into hibernation, opt for puffy jackets and endure shorter days, doesn’t mean we can’t still get around with a healthy glow. We’re calling it: a bronzer is a year-round product—because why should you only get your glow on when the weather is hot? For added warmth in your base, try mixing Drunk Elephant’s D-Bronzi with your sunscreen, tinted moisturiser or foundation—its enriched with omega-rich virgin marula and black currant seed oil, as well as vitamin F, plus it helps support the healthy barrier function of skin while imparting it with a soft glow.
For more a more precise application of warmth to your features, try the new NARS Sunkissed Bronzing Cream—it’s velvety, cream-to-powder consistency melts and blends into the skin helping to create warmth and depth to cheek bones, the crease of the eye, bridge of the nose and forehead.
GLOSS IS JUST FOR LIPS
Wrong. The days of only applying gloss on your lips are behind us. Take it across your eyelids or
tops of your cheekbones for an effortless, editorial look that can be worn day or night. Try the
Morphe 2 Gloss Pop Face &
Eye Gloss or MECCA
MAX Wet Look all Over Gloss both can be worn alone or over an eyeshadow of your choice
to completely change up the finish of your go-to look.
If you are keen to keep it on just your lips to start with, reach for the new Westman Atelier Squeaky
Clean Lip Balm: a tinted lip balm that gives lips a luxurious pillowy sheen while
keeping them nourished thanks to shea butter, jojoba and argan oil.
Editor's note: The Westman Atelier Squeaky Clean Lip Balm collection is currently only available in stores.
