WATCH: Beauty Reimagined, featuring fashion buyer and artist Alexandria Park

Long before there was J-Beauty, there was Shiseido. Innovating since 1872, the Japanese beauty authority famously marries Eastern traditions with high-tech breakthroughs—resulting in future-focused skincare and a visionary makeup collection that reflects the unparalleled innovation and true DNA of Japanese beauty. In celebration of Shiseido Makeup’s launch into MECCA, we partnered with artist and fashion buyer Alexandria Park to explore the relationship between art and beauty, and skin and makeup.

Womenswear buyer by day and studio artist by night, Park—whose style in fashion and art can be described as the perfect middle ground between classic and modern—is committed to the ideal that “beauty and art go hand in hand.”

With a fondness for imperfections—“when the brush strokes don’t go a certain way”—the Sydney-based Park finds common ground between herself and Shiseido’s innovations. In art, in skin, and in makeup, both show a knack for control, technique and minimalism, empowered by creativity and experimentation. This can be seen in the works produced by AJP Studio, founded by Park in 2018, and in formulas like the brand’s Synchro Skin Self-Refreshing Foundation and VisionAiry Gel Lipstick.

As she likens to her art, to Park ‘healthy skin’ is “about understanding your own skin and being comfortable in it… not being too critical of yourself.”

“It really shows through when you’re happy, and when your skin is happy as well.”
