5 Glowing Makeup Tips 16x9

Words by Christie Sinclair

Don’t get us wrong, we love a TikTok beauty tutorial as much as, well, the rest of the world.

But in our opinion, there’s still something to be said for tried-and-true tips direct from the experts – the artists who have honed their skills over many (many!) years of painting faces.

One of the most masterful pairs of hands in the business belongs to RMS Beauty founder (and in-demand artist) Rose-Marie Swift. A creative powerhouse and a true pro at glow – with the creation of luminous looks for the likes of Louis Vuitton and Vogue under her belt – her simple makeup application hacks have changed the way we apply makeup, and chances are they’ll do the same for you! Ahead, find five of her best tips for achieving her signature skin finish – a healthy glow.

Use fingers for an undetectable finish

"I’m a skin-to-skin application girl for sure. I like to begin by priming with the Master Radiance Base, then I take half a pump of RMS Beauty’s “Re” Evolve Foundation on the back of my hand and apply using fingers, this works great too with the UnCoverup Concealer. Keep in mind all RMS Beauty products are concentrated, so a little goes a long way. Apply with fingers for the best and easiest application to any area of the face that needs a little coverage. Less is more, and using the fingers results in a beautiful coverage. It is not necessary to apply a full face of makeup, just concentrate on the areas that need some coverage. Any excess product can be applied under eyes where there tends to be a little more discoloration. Coverage will be synergistic perfection!"

Warm highlighter before application

“RMS Beauty’s Living Luminizer wins the Oscar for best product to achieve a lit-from-within, luminous glow. Using either your fingers or a small beauty spatula, scoop a small amount of product onto fingers and delicately warm the product so it literally melts into the skin. Blend onto elevated areas of the face such as cheekbones, inside corners of the eyes, a subtle pop on the centre of the lid above lashes (this reflects light and gives more sensuality to the eyes) and Cupid’s bow (for a sexier, fuller mouth)."

Refresh your makeup with beauty oil

“This is a trick that I use daily on both myself and models that have been under the lights a little too long! Not only does this refresh the makeup, but it also adds instant hydration to skin throughout the day. I take 1 – 2 drops of my  Beauty Oil or Kakadu Evening Beauty Elixir mixed between the fingers and palm and gently press into skin with a flat open hand – pressing firmly into areas that are dry. These nourishing formulas will give the skin a refreshed glow, no matter how dry it is. Such an easy, fast fix!"

Try highlighter on your knuckles

“While the Living Luminizer is best known as a highlighter for your face on elevated areas such as lids, corners of eyes, cheekbones and Cupid’s bow, I love to take it a step further for that added glowing sensuality. Applying on the knuckles gives the illusion of sensual hands and skin while holding a glass of wine as the soft light of the evening catches that glow – you get it! Don’t forget the shoulders and collarbones."

Never take blush below the lower half of your face

“Nothing gives a more sophisticated lift to the face than this simple trick. Always apply blush (whether it's a cream formula like the Lip2Cheek or a powder like the "Re" Dimension Hydra Powder Blush) above the nostril line – anything below that will pull the face down and can look jowl-like. Elevating the blush gives an instant lift to the face for a more youthful appearance. This is an easy trick that anyone can do."
