WATCH: 3 easy ‘90s-inspired hairstyles for your next video chat

Surely we’re not the only ones bored of seeing ourselves in the bottom corner of our screens, with one of two of the at-home hair staples: out and down, or a messy bun. Surely. With a thirst for something new, and if we’re honest, just as effortless, Kerri from MECCA HQ (that’s me!) is guiding us through three cute, ‘90s-inspired hairstyles that couldn’t get any easier.

The first, a simple ponytail with face-framing tendrils, makes the most of the outgrown curtain fringe you might not have been able to tend to, or the regretful fringe you cut in week one of iso. To perfect it, prep your hair with Bumble and bumble’s Invisible Oil for shine (to be enhanced by the light of your screen, of course). Form your hair into a ponytail with Slip’s non-damaging Skinnie Silk Scrunchies, leaving out the shorter front pieces, and give them a little extra movement and shine by smoothing over them with a GHD Platinum+ Styler (I’m obsessed with this cobalt colourway!). Tackle frizz and fly-aways with IGK’s Crybaby Anti-Frizz Smoothing Serum and you’re good to Zoom!

If you’re in need of a mood boost, frame your face with mini plaits—they’re so easy, ridiculously cute and are guaranteed to take away from the fact you’re wearing trackpants. All you need to achieve the look is a brush, IGK texturising spray for hold and grit (and a GHD Glide Hot Brush if you’d like to smooth out and round the lengths and ends). As people aren’t going to see the back of your head for a while, it’s all about keeping the party in the front.

And finally, if you’re still transitioning between all out or a messy bun, meet in the middle for a half-up look. It keeps your hair away from your face (which means easy access to slip on a sheet mask between meetings), while still being able to show off your glossy lengths. Like you would your skin, prep the hair by brushing a primer through for easy styling. To form the mini bun (or you could even opt for a ponytail), slide the top section of hair halfway through a silk scrunchie, looping it back through to secure. This doesn’t have to be perfect, just secure and comfortable. Lightly set it in place with Hair by Sam McKnight’s Modern Hairspray Mist for a look that lasts all day long.
