HOW TO

Nail art you can actually do at home

The year is winding down but the social calendar is amping up. With hardly a spare moment between end-of-year deadlines and seasonal soirées, getting to a nail salon before close is increasingly difficult (read: actually impossible)—and it’s hard to nail a holiday-party outfit without perfectly polished tips. To help you get the fancy manicure you want, in your own time (that is, midnight when you’re finally home), Chelsea Bagan, founder of Trophy Wife Nail Salon, is showing us a few simple designs you can actually do yourself.

Spot on

Great for beginners, a contrasting spot can really elevate your go-to manicure. Here we opted for red and pink—one of our favourite colour combos this season.

Step 1: Apply a base coat of JINsoon Power Coat Strengthening Base Coat.

Step 2: Apply two coats of MECCA MAX Hot Tips Nail Polish in the shade Lady Is A Vamp and allow to dry.

Step 3: Decant a few drops of JINsoon Nail Lacquer in the shade Dolly Pink onto a palette. Dip the end of an eyeshadow brush (we used 16 Brand Liner Brush) into the paint and lightly dot onto the nail. Allow to dry.

Step 4: Apply a top coat of JINsoon Top Gloss Quick Dry Top Coat to finish.

Twinkle, twinkle

Give your everyday buff manicure a festive twist with a glitter starburst at the base of the nail.

Step 1: Apply a base coat of JINsoon Power Coat Strengthening Base Coat.

Step 2: Apply two coats of MECCA MAX Hot Tips Nail Polish in Skinny Dip.

Step 3: While the polish is still wet, mix MECCA MAX Loose Glitter in Cashed Up and M•A•C Glitter in Reflects Gold together, dip an eyeshadow brush into the glitter (we used 16 Brand Small Shadow), place the brush on your cuticle and lightly brush the glitter towards the tip.

Step 4: Apply a top coat of JINsoon Top Gloss Quick Dry Top Coat to finish.

Crescent-moon rising

Fair warning, this crescent-moon, French-manicure hybrid is a little more advanced, but it’s totally worth the effort. Stylish and sophisticated, it’ll take you from work to play all season long.

Step 1: Apply a base coat of JINsoon Power Coat Strengthening Base Coat.

Step 2: Apply two coats of JINsoon Nail Lacquer in the shade Nostalgia and allow to dry.

Step 3: Take a superfine brush (you can use an eyeliner brush) and dip it into MECCA MAX Hot Tips Nail Polish in the shade Lights Off, starting halfway down the nail, carefully draw a line that traces your cuticle around to the opposite side.

Step 4: Dip the superfine brush into JINsoon Nail Lacquer in the shade Nifty (from the Flapper Collection) and draw a fine line that traces around the tip and connects at the dark line. Allow to dry.

Step 5: Apply a top coat of JINsoon Top Gloss Quick Dry Top Coat to finish.

Deck the halls

Unabashedly festive, this red manicure with gold glitter squares is a Christmasfile’s dream.

Step 1: Apply a base coat of JINsoon Power Coat Strengthening Base Coat.

Step 2: Using MECCA MAX Hot Tips Nail Polish in the shade Bae Watch, paint a stripe along either side of the nail (to coat the left third and right third of the nail). Take your brush horizontal and paint across the center of the nail, leaving a blank square at the cuticle. Repeat for fuller coverage.

Step 3: Decant a few drops of the JINsoon Top Gloss Quick Dry Top Coat and mix with MECCA MAX Loose Glitter in Cashed Up. Using an eyeliner brush (we used 16 Brand Liner Brush) fill the square with the glitter polish.

Step 4: Apply a top coat of JINsoon Top Gloss Quick Dry Top Coat to finish.
