The Insta-famous mask that’s totally worth the hype

THE WORLD’S MOST INFLUENTIAL MASK FROM INFLUENCERS MARIANNA HEWITT AND LAUREN GORES IRELAND HAS LANDED AT MECCA. THE VERDICT? IT’S A MODERN-DAY MIRACLE.

As beauty bloggers and influencers, Marianna Hewitt and Lauren Gores Ireland have tried it all. The LA-based authors of blogs—Life With Me and You & Lu—were the recipients of every skin care product under the sun, and yet they were still searching for the perfect mask. One that transformed dry, dull skin with beneficial ingredients and imparted a selfie-worthy glow. Instead of waiting for a miracle to happen, they created the Jet Lag Mask. On launch, it sold out in both the US and the UK, was championed by celebs including Kim Kardashian and Jessica Alba, and pretty much broke Instagram. No doubt you’ve seen all the posts featuring the frosty blue tube, emoji-filled captions and countless raves from women who’ve used it.

The timing of its arrival at MECCA couldn’t have been better for me. I had just returned from an exhausting tour: six days, three cities, two families and lots of friends, sharing our news that a baby was on the way. Early pregnancy, travel and emotional catch-ups had left me drained. My face was starting to resemble a dried prune—more lines, darker circles—and no amount of sleep seemed to resolve it. Interestingly, Gores Ireland was pregnant herself at the time the duo were formulating, and the mask was vegan, cruelty-free and devoid of any irritants like synthetics dyes or fragrances. So, I knew it was safe to use in my new condition.

Applying the mask, it went on smoothly and felt rich. There’s a pleasant minty smell and I felt a faint tingle—note, my skin is more sensitive than Ryan Gosling in The Notebook—once I’d covered my face in an even layer. I set the timer for 10 minutes, but once it went off I noticed the mask had really soaked in. The little residue left wasn’t sticky or tacky, giving weight to the product’s no-rinse-needed claim. Sleeping in it without waking up with hair stuck all over my face seem do-able, so I decided to give it a go.

The next morning, I looked in the mirror and for a moment I thought I’d forgotten to take my makeup off. My skin looked clear, plump, dewy and had that luminous look usually achieved with several layers of highlighter. A small Insta-miracle. I still felt tired, but I looked like I’d spent the last week eating clean, drinking litres of water and being pampered with facials.

The mask is made with a cocktail of antioxidants, ceramides and vitamins to reveal renewed, hydrated and glass-like skin. There are tested ingredients like moisture magnet vitamin C, pore-refining niacinamide, inflammation-nixing green tea extract, as well as a few unusual ones such as chestnut extract. It’s a gentle exfoliant that polishes away dull skin. Safe to say this is one product going on high rotation in my skin regime. Believe the hype.
