CURRENTLY COVETING

This one multi-tasking eye product is an eyeliner, eyeshadow and fills in your brows: 4 MECCA HQ women show you how

With makeup collections fast overtaking our bathroom cupboards, desk drawers and the beauty blogger-esque IKEA units we all bought in 2014, we have a particular interest in beauty multitaskers that claim to do it all, while taking up the least real estate. Alas, when Shiseido’s Kajal InkArtist Shadow, Liner and Brow colours landed at MECCA, we were intrigued.

These four-in-one retractable kajals are smudge-proof, crease-proof and waterproof, and according to Shiseido, couldn’t get much easier to apply for a full 12 hours of wear. They come in ten high-pigment shades that are guaranteed to inspire you to get creative with your look—blue brows and burgundy wings included.

The very first at MECCA HQ to get their hands on the covetable kajals, team members Clare, Jemma and Francesca and Zara are giving us the 411 on this Shiseido makeup staple.

JEMMA FILLS HER BROWS PRE-ZOOM MEETING WITH ‘TEA HOUSE

“My brows have been a bit neglected of late due to lockdown (and are quite patchy at the best of times) but this Kajal InkArtist is my new go-to for achieving fuller brows super quickly in the morning before jumping on a virtual meeting. I use the shade ‘Tea House’, filling in my brows with the soft pencil and then blending in with the built-in sponge. I then also like to do a quick brush through with a brow gel or brow brush just to give a bit of extra polish. I love that it’s so weightless but doesn’t budge all day—anything that is this easy to apply and versatile enough to do it all is a winner in my books!”

FRANCESCA CREATES A BLOWN-OUT SHADOW LOOK WITH ‘LILAC LOTUS

“The shade ‘Lilac Lotus’ is perfect for a fresh and fun springtime look. The best thing about the Kajal InkArtists is they are so versatile and easy to apply—I simply coloured along the lash line using the precision tip, building depth and colour onto the lid and below the eye. You have about 30 seconds play time to blend before it sets, and I just used my finger to blend the colour through the socket to keep the look soft and diffused. I love how the Kajal InkArtist shades and formula make it so easy to experiment with colour!”

ZARA USES ‘TEA HOUSE’ AS AN EYELINER AND EYESHADOW

“My eyeshadow approach is a contradiction: I want something that gives definition to my eyes but I’m super lazy as well as unskilled with eye makeup. I use the Kajal InkArtist to create a thick winged eyeliner, inspired by the Camille Ormandy-Olsen’s eyeliner in this video, and also lined the lower lash line and smudged it out slightly with the sponge at the other end. And then, I lightly draw it in the crease/lower brow area and smudge it out with my fingers to give the area a bit of definition so it’s as though it’s very light contouring. Then, a squeeze of the Shiseido eyelash curler which is the ideal shape for my eyelids, mascara, and I’m done!”

CLARE WEARS ‘SUMI SKY AS EYELINER FOR A MOOD-BOOST

“One sweep of the highly pigmented Shiseido Kajal InkArtist liner (in my favourite shade, ‘Sumi Sky’!) and I’ve got a playful, high impact look that instantly lifts my mood. A full coverage foundation base is my everyday, so I prefer a clean eyeliner look to full eyeshadow as it adds colour without looking too overdone. I use a very fine precision brush dipped in micellar water to tidy up the application and ensure a sharp line."
