ULTRA FACIAL CREAM — purchased every six seconds

This seemingly humble moisturising cream boasts global success that is anything but: with a jar sold every six seconds (that’s ten every minute), the iconic white jar has become an icon in its own right. So what makes it so good? For starters, the uniquely lightweight texture of this ultra-hydrator makes it almost undetectable on the skin, while managing to offer 24-hours of thirst-quenching hydration. Shea butter, avocado oil and squalene combine with beta-carotene, cocoa butter and sesame oil in this heavenly formula to provide over 24-hours of fanfare-worthy hydration. Despite its rich texture, the golden crème skins into the skin easily, comforting dryness immediately while making skin effortlessly radiant. With no added fragrance, the natural scent of shea and cocoa butters in this formula are inoffensively neutral, so you don’t need to worry about it clashing with your perfume.

As well as being a delicious skin drink, the inclusion of beta-carotene helps to neutralise free radicals, protect against UVA-light induced damage and enhance the skin's appearance. Cult-status and celebrity-endorsement aside, this formula truly ticks all the boxes.

CALENDULA TONER — purchased every 12 seconds

Regarded as ‘magic water’ across Asia (for good reason), Kiehl’s Calendula Toner is undoubtedly the hero of its category, spanning decades of consumer repurchase. Making the magic is hand-picked calendula petals (might know it better as marigold), which gently cleanse and soothe the skin without the need for alcohol or synthetic agents. It’s also anti-inflammatory — which means it can help with itching, whether from a bite, reaction or eczema — and antiseptic, so it’s fine (even good) for use on open wounds such as acne, cuts or ulcers. As well as all that, calendula’s natural oils act as an emollient, nourishing dry skin while balancing oily skin. In other words, you’d be mad not to keep a stash of this stuff in your bathroom cupboard.

Truly setting it apart from most other toners on the market is its ultra-nourishing properties, a term not commonly associated with the toner category. Allantoin and great burdock’s inclusions in Kiehl’s magic formula offer additional moisture and balance to the skin, further enhancing the effects of calendula.
