If there’s anything we’ve learnt from pop culture, it’s that every superhero needs a compelling origin story: Wonder Woman and Diana, Princess of Themyscira, Wolverine and Logan, Miss Piggy and Muppet Babies. For this super palette, the back story begins with a knockout shade in a little ol’ palette known as the Semi Sweet Chocolate Bar.

Let’s turn back the clock to 2015: Reddit forums and social media feeds are all abuzz with Semi Sweet talk—more pointedly, non-stop chatter about a single eyeshadow shade: Peanut Butter. Out of 16? Sure, this delicious spread had long been a pantry favourite (on toast, with chocolate or straight from the jar for unadulterated pleasure) but as an eyeshadow, this kind of hype was previously unheard of. So, what gives? Try "universally flattering", "great transition colour", "timeless appeal", "the perfect starting point for any eye look".

The PB love was so unanimous (and unrelenting) that Too Faced had no choice but to sit up, pay attention and deliver this hardworking hue its very own franchise. In 2016, they did just that with the smash success, limited-edition Peanut Butter and Jelly Collection. (So good, it sold out on mecca.com.au in two days.)

So what do you do when you have one box-office epic? You release a killer sequel. Enter Peanut Butter and Honey. Now we could tell you about how good it smells or how the matte and shimmer shades are buttery smooth and everything you’ve come to expect from Jerrod and co. but we know you’re all over it when it comes to Too Faced. So let’s talk about what sets this honey-scented beauty apart: the colour spectrum.

You just can’t fault it. An ideal beginner’s palette or everyday go-to, these nine shades are just so effortless to use. Peanut Butter is here, of course, plus eight other colours in warm neutrals, pearlescent base shades and bronzed hues. And the standout: Honey Buns. Don’t be fooled by this splash of mustard—it’s surprisingly flattering and really makes blue eyes pop. So now that you know its beginning, you’ll want to hold out for this hero.
